“Great riverside restaurant”

I am a regular visitor to Chiang Mai and ever in search of good restaurants. My Thai partner suggested we try this one. It is in the Padad area of Chiang Mai off of Highway 1141 Mahidol Rd takes a little fionding you will need a map - it ios on the Nacy Chandler Map of Chiang Mai. We have a car so getting there was not a problem with adequate parking opposite the restaurant. Restaurant is very large with over 200 covers, does welcome families and parties if you want table next to Ping River then book in advance. Mainly open air seating with some under cover watch the weather and heat.

Extensive menu of Thai and Italian dishes in Thai and English. Chef's Specials on insert card. Service good. Prices high average and reasonable considering the setting.

We ordered 5 dishes, plus rice, water and beer - bill was 800 baht, Excellent red curry the best I have had in Chiang Mai. Spaghetti & with pork and chilli was very tasty, sweet and sour prawns, crab cakes, morning glory with garlic and chilli was so well spiced it was delicious. Finished with small mixed fruits - water melon, cantaloupe melon, guava & mango was plenty for two.

Negatives - the meal was delivered in fits and starts the morning glory came first and rice was nearly last - this seems to be a Thai problem as dishes are produced they come to thetable there is no plan! my advice relax - enjoy the ambience and have another drink - it is well worth waiting for.

“Very good fish and respectful of special diets”

Enjoyed dinner at this restaurant last night with friends. Traveling in Thailand is difficult for those of us who have special diets like gluten free or celiacs. Most restaurants will nob their heads yes when explaining what they must "leave out" of their dishes and then do what ever suits them in the kitchen. I know because it has happened to me more than once here in Thailand. BUT Thanuhm did exactly as instructed and I was about to eat a wonderful steamed fish and vegetables with no "reaction" afterwards. Thank you SO much!!! The restaurant was very busy and I was afraid that it would lower our experience but it did not. They were able to get people in and out quickly at the same time allowing those of us who wanted to linger, not to feel rushed. The rest of the dishes at the table were equally tasty (I was told) and one of the diner's said it was the best fried fish ever!! High praise since he lives here.

"Very romantic atmosphere with delicious LOCAL foods! Super! Strong suggest”:

This restaurant is huge, with tables biside the river. During the dinner, we were really enjoyed the night view with lights, candels, the moon and a small tower in another side of the river.Super romantic!!

The menu was very attractive, rich of choice. I got panic on choosing! At end we orderd 4 plates, 2 rice and 3 drinks in two people! Everything was super delicious, we finish all and my stomach was going to break

Service was good and quickly, even the waiter speaks few English but he was always very patient and try to understand me.

Many local people were eating there, with family/friends. This made me very happy and feel that we're really in Thailand.

SUGGESTION: Northern Tai food are normally very spicy. If you are not used to eat spicy, please pay attention on " spicy level" signed biside the name of every plates and recommend the waiter to make less spicy.

At end we paid 880 Bht for all, including a lantern(people can fly lanterns here, 100Bht per one). So consider the quality of foods and the lovely location, it's really not expensive.

Even the restaurant is a little far away from old town, I still suggest to try it.

I know I'll back to Chiangmai, and be sure I'll back to this restaurant again!!:)
