DescriptionIt’s hard to explain Phuket’s allure.
Perhaps the easiest way would be to compare it to a super-sexy but rebellious supermodel. The Naomi Campbell of the tourist trail.
Phuket’s beauty has never been in dispute. Its natural attractions are stunning.
What plagues Thailand’s biggest island is a reputation for petty crime, unsafe roads, aggressive taxi drivers, jet-ski scams and over-developed beaches.
Thai authorities promise they’re working to rebuild the island’s reputation as a family-friendly holiday destination by cleaning up these messes. (Whether their efforts are cosmetic or concrete will play out in the months and years to come.)
But there is, of course, another, far more positive Phuket.
That would be the one that pulls in about a couple million visitors a year, including the world’s rich and famous, who come for world-class luxury resorts, spectacular diving, island hopping, beach bumming, dining and nightlife.
Too tempted to resist? Here’s a quick guide to the best of Phuket.

Nikki Beach Phuket
Nikki Beach Phuket is a chic beach club set right on the tranquil and rather undeveloped Layan Beach (the northern end of Bangtao Beach on Phuket’s west coast). The venue has an ultra-modern touch with its white theme and modern, linear design. It is the brand’s second beach club in Thailand and the tenth location to open across the world.
The Nikki Beach concept is a combination of dining, music, fashion, film and art in one stunning coastal location. Daily live shows with dancers, fire shows and performances (daily during high season, weekly during low season), and top-class innovative artistic events and themed-days make Nikki Beach Phuket the ultimate beach club on Phuket Island. Regarding its cuisine, Nikki Beach serves top-of-the-range international fusion cuisine featuring the favourite dishes created in – and inspired by – each of its other branches’ locations around the world.
Nikki Beach Phuket terrace
As a long-established and internationally recognised brand (the first Nikki Beach Club opened in Miami in 1998) Nikki Beach can mostly be considered as the daddy of all beach clubs as we know them nowadays: the blending of outstanding beach location, stylish settings, trendy entertainment and fine dining truly created a new concept.
In Phuket, the venue’s layout features a two-storey building and a large open-air terrace with a free-form swimming pool in its central area. Two thatch-roofed bars flank the pool which has a wooden bridge in the middle. Large sun-beds and sun-loungers are displayed all around the terrace which also features palm trees. Inside, the large downstairs dining room seats up to 100 and is the perfect place to escape the heat at lunch time; upstairs, the long and narrow side-opened dining room and its al fresco terrace offer a superb view over Nikki Beach’s compound and beyond to the Andaman Sea, in addition to a daily spectacular natural exhibition: the sunset.
Opening Hours: Sunday- Thursday 11:00-22:00, Friday and Saturday 11:00- 01:00
Location: Layan Beach, at the northern end of Bangtao Beach
Remarks: All prices mentioned above are of June 2014. Nikki Beach Phuket management and team assure cleanliness of Layan Beach in front of the property on a daily basis.
